The story of Icarus is a timeless myth from ancient Greece, written by the Roman poet Ovid in his epic poem Metamorphoses. According to the tale, Daedalus, a brilliant inventor, crafted wings of feathers and wax to escape from captivity with his son, Icarus. Daedalus warned Icarus to fly neither too high, where the sun's heat would melt the wax, nor too low, where the sea's dampness could weigh him down. But overwhelmed by the thrill of flight, Icarus soared too close to the sun, melting his wings and leading to his tragic fall into the sea.
Our Founder
Elizabeth created Icarus to transform sun care into something more than a daily chore. Growing up with plaque psoriasis, she struggled to find sunscreen that was gentle on sensitive skin but still luxurious and effective. Inspired by her South Korean heritage and the advanced skincare innovations of Korea, she developed Icarus to fill this gap—for people with conditions like psoriasis and eczema, and for anyone seeking a better sun care experience.
With nearly a decade of experience in the luxury industry at Sephora, LVMH, Nordstrom, Elizabeth envisioned a brand that combines high-performance formulas with sustainability, genderless appeal, and hormone-neutral ingredients.
